Internet Marketing: Putting Your Internet Marketing Site Online

This third in a series of "Getting Started with Internet Marketing" articles is about pointing your new web host (in article 2) to your new domain that you purchased in article 1. This linking is important because if you don't do it, you'll never see your Internet marketing site online. Period. But no problem! We're going to fix that right now.

A server (or name server or domain name server or DNS) is a computer that translates domain names into IP or Internet protocol addresses. These are expressed in a series of numbers which other servers will understand. It makes things much simpler for us because instead of needing to type in series of numbers we can just type in coolwebsite.com and everything works.

But we have to tell servers where to find our websites, and because you just purchased your domain, you probably still have the registrar's name server (or nameserver) addresses, and in order for your website to be seen, you'll have to change them over to your hosting account. This won't be the case if you've purchased a hosting account where you got a free domain or two for perks of joining, but never base your hosting decision on that alone. (See article 2 in the Getting Started with Internet Marketing" series for more buying tips.)

For this exercise, let's say you're going to have a separate hosting account. You'll need to "point" your domain to your host's name servers so that when someone types in your domain, they'll land at your web site. So, at your domain registrar's site, navigate to where the name servers are located. It may just say "DNS." These are usually located near your domain listing or accessible through a link nearby your domains.

What you're going to find are two addresses and they'll look something like this: "ns1.yourregistrar.com" and "ns2.yourregistrar.com." Both of those addresses will have to be changed. Now, open a new tab or window and go to your hosting account. Look for "name servers," "nameservers, " or "DNS." Because these are sometimes hard to find, you may want to search for one of those terms.

When you find the hosting company's name server addresses, write them down or select and copy. Then, go to your domain registrar's tab or window and plug the new addresses in. That's it! You're done!

Though the Internet has become very fast and it can take only minutes to have these addresses changed, it can sometimes take a few hours. If it takes more than that, go back to the registrar and be sure that you entered the host's DNS addresses properly. (You may have entered .com when it should be .net, for instance.) If you haven't made a mistake, then call your hosting company's support department and find out what the problem is.

Easy Steps to Increase PageRank of your Website

This is probably the most obvious, but certainly one of the most overlooked aspects of search engine optimization. This helps to make sure that search engine spiders can actually find (crawl) all of your site’s pages. But if they can not find them, then they won’t get spidered, and this means that they won’t get indexed. In fact, no amount of search engine optimization you try will help.

Below are some points that should be taken note of in respect of link structure for your site.

Spiders can not see links which are accomplished by JavaScript. This is because, as far as search engines will be concerned, they do not exist. So if you want spiders to follow the links on your site, do not use JavaScript. In fact, you will find that Google will not spider any URL if it looks like it has a session ID in it. So any URL’s that have a longish number or odd characters (such as a question mark) in them should be avoided (these are often dynamic URL’s).

It is important that you make sure that all pages link to at least one other page. Pages which do not link out are known as “dangling links”. It is important that you structure the internal links so that targeted search terms are reinforced. So make sure that you organize your links so that your topic’s sub topic pages are linked to it (ensuring that you use the right link text that is specific to the page being linked to) and vice versa. See below for the different types of methods we mean.

Link Text

This is one of the 2 most important elements to ensure good rankings for a site. It can either be on pages within the site, or on other sites’ pages. But which ever way you do it, it is important that it is included. It is vital that you include the target page’s main search term in the link text. Also, whenever possible, do not use identical text for every link that links to a page. But if you can include the target page’s main search term in the link text instead. In fact, links will carry more weight with search engines if the text around them is concerned with the target page’s topic and search term(s).

Title Tag

This is probably second most important element in order to get good rankings for a site. It is important that you make sure the page’s search term is contained within this tag. So place it as near to the front as possible while ensuring that the title reads well. In fact, there is nothing wrong with you placing the search term up front on its own and then follow it with a period such as “Page Rank. Google Page Rank and how do I make the most of it?” As you can see, the target search term here is of course “Page Rank”. But what you should obviously do is make sure that each page’s title tag is different from the title tags on your site’s other pages.

Description Tag

You will find that some search engines, such as Google no longer display the description like they use to. But no matter what, you should include this on each page for those search engines that do. There are even the odd times when Google will actually display them. So it is vital that you write a description that is appealing and incorporates the page’s search term into it at least once but preferably twice is better. So if you can, place one at the start or as near to the start of the description as possible.

Keywords Tag

It is important to remember that the keywords tag is never actually treated by search engines as keywords. They will be treated as text on a page. Although this tag is not effective as it used to be, there is no reason to leave it out. Instead, make sure that you put in plenty of relevant keywords and include the search term once at the front of the tag. Also, you do not need to separate keywords or key phrases with commas (as is often done) as search engines ignore these.

Hn Tag

The “n” in this tag represents a number from 1 to 6. The biggest heading is represented by 1. You will find that H tags are given more weight than ordinary text in a page, and so the bigger the H size, the more weight it will have. So it is important that you include your target search term in the H tags at least once on the page, but if possible two or three times is even better. Also place your first H Tag as near to the top of the site page as possible.

Bold Text

This gives more weight to a page than ordinary text, but not as much as an H Tag does. So where ever possible, enclose the search term in bold tags occasionally where it appears on the page.

Normal Text

Whenever possible, use the search term as often as you can on the pages of your site. But ensure that they do not detract from how the page actually reads. Ensure that you use the term once or twice in the very early pages of the body text, and then as often as possible throughout. If you need to, reword small parts and add sentences to ensure that the search term is well represented in the text for good search engine optimization. But you will probably find that each word you have in your search term will be found separately on the page. So, if you need to, add a few of them throughout the page.

Alt Text
Include your search term in the alt text of all images on your pages. It is important to remember that some systems, such as those used by Braille readers and speech synthesizers, use the alt text. So it may be advisable to make them usable while including the search term.

So in summary what you need to do is as follows

  • Select the main search terms you wish to use.
  • Allocate these search terms to a suitable existing page, and if you need to, split pages.
  • Organize your internal links, and then link text, to suit the target search terms and their pages.
  • If you can, organize those links from other pages to suit the target search terms and their pages also.
  • Now organize all the on page elements in order that they suit each page’s target search term.

Finally, now sit back and watch your site’s page rankings begin to improve.

An Alternative Solution for Struggling Affiliate Marketers

In 2004, I released SEO Website Builder to allow raw affiliate marketers to create search engines optimized websites. It has been a great success with many of my students reporting first time success online.

However, the biggest complaint I get is that there are no more niches left and keywords have way too much competition to allow raw beginners to compete in Google. To disapprove this I built two niche websites with my SEO Website Builder that are both rank well in Google for the keywords I chose to target.

There has been a lot of changes since then. Search engines are getting smarter. To rank well, not only you need to build SEO optimized sites but you need to create useful, unique content that is well themed, too. later, I have found the solution to overcome this problem. In 2007, SEO Website Builder has been upgraded to version 2.

SEO Website Builder is the perfect website building package specially designed for beginners as well as seasoned affiliate marketers. Not only does it help you build sites with little or no HTML knowledge, but the training guides that come along with the package will teach you to think like the search engines, and give them what they want. SEO Website Builder is not just website building software, it’s a complete training course.

A Clever New Linking Strategy!

One day I was surfing the internet and suddenly came upon one of my articles - there on someone else's web site!

This is not the first time this has happened! But it got me thinking.
It was not long ago that I started writing articles and sending them out, but ever since then something almost magical has occurred.

I've started to see a tremendous increase in traffic to my web site!

And the reason for that is simple, really. My articles are finding their way on to heavily-trafficked web sites!
And not just that, but think of the multiplication factor as the articles spread to even more web sites! The process is on-going.
I'm not saying this to brag. It's just something that's started happening lately that has me almost giddy with excitement.

The truth is that a lot of my traffic is coming from these articles!
It hit me the other day as I was looking through my web site statistics.
What a great linking strategy!

Here's the process and how it works:

1) Send out articles that you've written.
2) Then they are reprinted in newsletters or on web sites.
3) People read the articles.
4) Then they click on the link to your site at the end of the article.
5) And suddenly you have traffic coming in!

And it's all free advertising! I paid nothing for it!
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm sure trading reciprocal links can work. But I didn't have to trade for these links.

My articles were added and the link to my site was automatic. I didn't have to link back at all to get these great links!

Now, had I followed the normal procedure (the one nearly all of the internet marketing experts are recommending) I would:

1) write a simple email to each webmaster of each site where I want a link back to my site.
2) Offer a link in return from my site.

Chances are the webmasters at these sites either would:

1) ignore my email, or
2) turn me down flat, or
3) send me a copy of their advertising rates.

What really are the chances of getting the kind of results I want from this method?
Think about it - these webmasters are not in business to give traffic away to others.

They're in business to make money. And you make money by attracting targeted traffic to your web site and offering something these visitors really want or need!
What advantage is it to you as a webmaster to give traffic away to a site that receives considerably less traffic than yours?

And that's the magic of my articles! It completely turns this around!
With my articles I give these webmasters something of value that they want and need - free content.

They can in turn use the articles to attract visitors to their sites (or as material in their newsletters - providing valuable content for their readers).
I, in turn, get what I really want - additional traffic to my web site - meaning more subscribers to my ezine and additional $$$ in my pocket!
That's what I would call a win-win situation all the way around!

Writing Articles for Other Web Sites

I have made many thousands of dollars this way. I can’t even track all the money I have made from this. I write articles and give them to people to put on their web sites. I’ll tell you right now, I made about $11,000.00 from Sales Doctors Magazine. I’m one of their featured writers. Somebody did not find my site; they found Sales Doctors site. They liked my article, linked to my site, and hired me without a video, without anything. I went out to California and did the job. It was a big pharmaceutical company and I came so close to making it a $40,000.00 day. They were going to buy a book for everybody in the crowd, thirty-two hundred people. They had the money and they are the ones that brought it up. They decided against buying the books because they just had too much going on. The whole idea is that I never would have had a shot at any of these had it not been for my article on Sales Doctors web site.

There are people out there that have the money. We want to give them every opportunity to find us even if they don't find our web site directly. Articles are a great strategy. Get your articles placed on other people’s web sites. It helps them by providing content. It helps you because you get links to your site that will pay off forever. You can also use your articles work double duty for sites all over the Internet. The writing of articles is a fast way to make yourself an expert and get your name all the way around the World.
